Advanced Placement Credit

Loyola awards credit for appropriate performance on the Advanced Placement (AP) tests administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS).  Each academic department at Loyola determines the qualifying scores and the amount of credit awarded for its descipline.  (Click here for a complete listing of qualifying scores.)  In order to qualify for credit based on AP tests, students must have the scores sent directly to Loyola from ETS.  You will be notified by email during the summer if credit is awarded.

Students will most likely already be registered for fall courses prior to receiving their Advanced Placement credit letters from the Dean of First-Year Students and Academic Services.  If AP credit impacts a student's fall schedule, s(he) should contact the Academic Advising and Support Center (410-617-5050) to make the necessary schedule adjustments.  Students should also call AASC and speak to an administrator if s(he) has questions about the awarded credit or how that credit may be applicable towards the studetn's Core or intended major requirements.  It is recommended that all students print a copy of the letter for their Core advisor to review when s(he) comes to campus in the fall.

International Baccalaureate Credit

Loyola awards credit only for higher level IB courses in which a grade of 6 or 7 is earned.  Upon receipt of official notification of these scores, the Dean of First-Year Students and Academic Services will work with the appropriate academic department to determine which, if any, credit should be awarded.  A maximum of one year of credit may be earned through examination.

  2. an offical seal-bearing transcript from the college
