Graduation Clearance Process

During the summer prior to senior year, all students should verify their remaining course requirements by reviewing their degree audit on WebAdvisor.  The degree audit lists all of the courses that the student has completed as well as additional courses needed during senior year in order to fulfill all of Loyola's requirements for May graduation.  These requirements include 40 three- or four-credit courses and 120 credits.  Students should contact AASC to schedule an appointment with the administrator who will be clearing them for graduation if the student has any questions regarding his/her remaining course requirements.

To schedule an appointment with an AASC administrator, call 410-617-5050.

Commencement Ceremony

"Only students who have completed all degree requirements ... and have earned a minimum cumulative average of 2.000 in all Loyola courses are invited to participate" in the formal commencement ceremony. (Undegraduate Catalogue, p. 60)

Ultimately it is the student who is responsible for identifying the requirements and completing the courses.

Honors at Graduation

The cumulative QPA is used for determining honors at graduation or any other academic honors.  Although the grades for all courses taken at all colleges attended are included, no higher honors are awarded than those earned with grades that appear on the Loyola transcript for courses completed at Loyola or through Loyola sponsored programs.  If transfer courses have grades that lower the QPA, they are used in computing the QPA.

To receive honors at graduation, students must have a cumulative grade point average as follows:

  • Summa cum laude = 3.800
  • Magna cum laude = 3.700
  • Cum laude = 3.500
