Courses that may not be taken away are:  WR100, HS101, HS300-level (core only), EN101, EN200-level (core only), Fine Arts core, PS101 and PS102.

PL201 must be taken at a Jesuit school.  The 2nd PL core and PL Ethics core must be taken at a 4-year school that has an independent Philosophy department and that also offers a Philosophy major.  Courses from a Philosophy and Religion or Philosophy in a Humanities department are not eligible.

Students must be a rising senior in order to request taking a Theology core away, and it must be a Theology course and not a Religious Studies course.  Please click here for important
details.

Summer Transfer Course Requirements:

  1. Students may take a maximum of TWO, 3- or 4-credit courses (along with any associated 1-credit labs) away during any given summer.
  2. Courses should be taken at 4-year, accredited institutions.  Business courses must be taken at AACSB-accredited institutions.  See www.aacsb.edu.
  3. Distance-learning, On-line, and Correspondence courses are not acceptable for transfer credit.
  4. Summer transfer courses must equal, credit-for-credit, Loyola courses. (Example: a 4-credit course at Loyola requires taking at least a 4-credit course at the away institution.)
  5. A grade of C or better is required for all transfer coursesA grade of C- is not transferable. Science courses with labs require a C in BOTH the lecture and the labotherwise, both lecture and lab will not transfer.  Grades are not transferable, but are used to calculate honors at graduation.
  6. Summer transfer courses cannot overlap with the Loyola academic term during which the student is enrolled.
  7. Students must comply with Loyola's Residency Requirement which can be found on page 63 of the
2008-2009 Undergraduate CatalogueIf you went abroad on a non-Loyola program and are a junior or senior (60 earned credits or more), then you may not take any further transfer courses due to Loyola’s residency requirement.

Requests will be processed in the order that they are received.

We cannot guarantee the timeliness with which your request will be reviewed.  Unavoidable factors such as faculty schedules and official holidays can delay the process, so submitting requests as early as possible is highly recommended.

If you are taking a summer away course that is a pre-requisite to a Fall 2009 course, you must have submitted a summer away request before we will register you for the Fall course.

After you submit your request:

  • AASC will review your form.  Your academic status, residency requirement, and the transfer school’s accreditation will be verified.
  • If the course is approved by both AASC and the department, AASC will send an approval letter to your Loyola e-mail address.
  • If the course is denied, AASC will send a denial letter to your Loyola e-mail address and you may submit another request for consideration.
  • Students who wish to take summer courses outside of the United States must see Renee Harris,
Office of International Programs, Maryland Hall 148, rharris@loyola.eduPlease do not use this form for summer abroad requests.
