The Study, administered and maintained by Academic Advising and Support Center, provides free individual tutoring for most courses taught at Loyola.  (See list of courses)  All tutors are trained through a Level 1 College Reading and Learning Association certified program

The tutoring program at Loyola University allows students to support each other in their academic studies.  The goal of the program is to promote student independence while fostering mastery of the material.

How to Request a Tutor

Students may request a tutor by completing a Tutor Request FormThe Study does its best to respond to all requests with in 24 hours. Students will be notified about the availability of a tutor within 7 days of their request.  However, most requests are handled in less than 7 days.

If you have questions about requesting a tutor, please send an e-mail to TheStudy@loyola.edu, call extension 2104 (410-617-2104), or stop by The Study, located on the third floor of Jenkins Hall.

Important Tutor Request Information

  • Please include the course number in your tutoring request.
  • You will be notified of your tutoring appointment via your loyola.edu e-mail account.
  • If you will be unable to attend an appointment please send an email to TheStudy@loyola.edu as soon as you can.
  • If you are unable to attend your appointment and do not notify The Study, you will need to submit another Tutor Request Form (please see above).
  • If you have problems with the " Tutor Request Form", please contact The Study at extension 2104 or send an email to TheStudy@loyola.edu.
  • If you are unsatisfied with your tutor and would like to request another tutor you can send an email to TheStudy@loyola.edu or call extension 2104 (410-617-2104). 

How to Become a Tutor

If you have a strong academic record, have an interest in helping others, and wish to earn some part-time work experience for your resume, you may qualify to be a tutor.  Tutors must meet the following requirements: 

Loyola Peer Tutor Requirements:

  • Minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0
  • At least one recommendation letter from a professor of a course that you would like to tutor
  • Successful interview with a tutoring coordinator
  • Able to attend 10 hours of College Reading and Learning Association certified training, conducted by The Study
