AWSSGRAD-L is a listserv for graduate students in
Slavic, East European, and Central Eurasian studies
The primary purpose of AWSSGRAD-L is to encourage
lively and professional discussion of the ins and outs of the graduate
experience, which will helpto ease the sense of isolation that is
often felt by graduate students. Discussions can include a
broad range of topics, such as: gender issues in our research, our
departments, and in the profession; current research and research
interests; methods and tools of analysis; preparing for papers and
exams; networking; choosing and getting along with mentors; navigating
departmental politics; reviews of primary and secondary sources;
balancing one's personal and professional lives; and managing time
and financial resources.
The list is moderated by Cheri Wilson, a Ph.D. candidate
in Russian history at the University of Minnesota.

The mentoring list is maintained by the graduate student
representatives to the Board of the Association for Women in Slavic
Studies. If you wish to add your name to the list, or to correct
information on it, contact Cheri
Wilson.
Everyone on the list urges graduate students, undergraduate
students, and even junior faculty not to be shy or hesitant about
getting in touch. Mentors not only wish to help develop the future
of our profession, but also gain great satisfaction from learning
about the research and projects that will shape that future. Unless
otherwise indicated, everyone listed is willing to mentor both graduate
and undergraduate students.
Click here to see the current
list of AWSS mentors. (The information contained in the
mentor list was current as of 1998. Some contact information
obviously has changed. Please check back later for an updated
version).
