Dr. Sara Magee to Join the Loyola Communication Dept. in Fall 2011
Dr. Sara Magee comes to us as an assistant professor in the television journalism program at the WVU Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism. She teaches courses in television news writing, production and reporting as well as media ethics. Her research interests include news and entertainment in todays media, popular culture and its impact on society and media, online culture and media, and National Public Radio programs and news content. Magee hails from numerous places including Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Nevada, where she has worked in broadcast television and radio for more than 10 years. She has also taught broadcast journalism at Ohio University while working toward her doctorate degree and served as the local radio host for NPRs All Things Considered for three years. After earning a bachelors degree in journalism from Ohio University in 1997, Magee produced and reported for WICU 12 TV, the NBC affiliate in Erie, Pa., for three years before heading out to Sin City where she produced the 11 pm newscast at the local CBS affiliate KLAS TV. During her time in Las Vegas, Magee won an Emmy award for her New Years Eve live broadcast, produced several other award-winning newscasts and served as assignment editor and reporter. After more than six years in the business, Magee returned to school for her masters in English literature from Virginia Commonwealth (2005) and later moved on to receive her doctorate from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University (2008). During her time at Ohio University, Magee taught broadcast journalism classes and oversaw a live, daily, student-produced newscast. She also served as a producer and fill-in managing editor for WOUB-TV and radio and hosted various National Public Radio programs, including All Things Considered and Morning Edition. During her time at WVU she taught Television and Radio writing and reporting, the student produced weekly television newscast class WVU News, the journalism and media ethics classes, and advised the schools chapter of the Radio Television Digital News Association. Magee also won the Golden Quill Award for Excellence in Teaching for 2009-2010, an award voted on by all students in the School of Journalism. |
