Documentaries by Loyola Students To Debut December 8

The public is invited to a premier of student-produced documentaries on December 8, 2008, at 4:30-5:45 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Loyola Notre Dame Library, 200 Winston Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21212, 410-617-6800 (travel directions at http://www.loyola.edu/library/). ( http://www.loyola.edu/library/). ) Campus guests may obtain free parking in the adjacent Library lot. The documentaries address various social justice issues, which are stressed in the Jesuit/Catholic education of Loyola College in Maryland:

A Drinking Problem by Tyler Haynes (team captain) and Matt Ferris explores the university's position on a national movement to lower the legal drinking age to 18.

A Life of Justice by Nick Marx (team captain), Mallory Dion, Joyce Higgins, and Scott Thomasch profiles the university's Center for Community Service and Justice.

Freshmen Targeting by Alanna McGeary (team captain) and Melanie Block looks at university student life practice to pick on new students for rules infractions.

Heart of the City by Megan Gillen (team captain), Brian Aranda, Michelle Patterson, Caitlin Sullivan, and Christine Beal documents the homeless situation in Baltimore from both church and state perspectives.

Second Serving by Liz O'Marra (team captain), Renzo Goméz, Cuyana Davis, Mike Wall, and Philip Scholz tells the story of a local employer of ex-cons.

What Lunch? by Michelle Graceffo (team captain) and R.J. Trzaska tracks the eating habits of four Loyola students.

Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend by Danielle Ligato (team captain), Jennifer Minich, Alex Cefalu, and Caroline Hubbard portrays the "Diamond Girls" organization for young women.

This team documentary production assignment is the culminating class project of The Documentary Tradition, an undergraduate class taught by Dr. Russell Cook, Professor and Chair of Loyola's Department of Communication. The students will be on hand at the screening to tell about their experiences and to answer questions.
