*AKI is a graduate program for music educators who hold a bachelor's degree or higher in Music or Music Education (GPA of 3.0 or higher; special permission from the program director is required if your undergraduate GPA was lower than 3.0). Students whose bachelor's degree is in a subject other than music must receive special permission from the director in order to apply for admission, and must be able to demonstrate proficiency in musicianship and music theory skills. Tutoring, participation in the Solfa Fundamentals course, and/or other course preparation may be required. The degree requirement cannot be waived for students taking AKI courses for graduate credit.
Transfer Students
Due to the unique content of AKI courses and the number of credit hours per course, AKI/Loyola does not accept transfer credits from other institutions toward the Master of Education in Kodály Music Education.
International Students
Transcripts from studies not conducted in English must be submitted with a certified English translation.
A TOEFL score report is required only if English is not your native language or if you have not completed a degree program taught in English. An official TOEFL score report cannot be more than two years old. Official scores must be mailed directly from the Educational Testing Service. Loyola's institution code is 5370.
Applicants who hold degrees or have earned credits from non-U.S. institutions (not study abroad programs) must have a course-by-course evaluation and translation done by a Loyola-recognized evaluation services agency. Loyola recommends World Education Services (WES).
