Montessori Education

Washington Montessori Institute at Loyola

The oldest Association Montessori Internationale (AMI)-accredited training center in North America, Washington Montessori Institute (WMI) is located in a beautiful suburban setting between Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, at Loyola's graduate center in Columbia, MD.

WMI offers graduate programs in Montessori education that guide adults as they prepare for the work and responsibility of helping each child to develop the fullness of his or her potential. Students acquire an understanding of a child's stages of development and the different conditions and strategies necessary to support development at each stage.

At Loyola, you have the unique opportunity to earn a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree while also earning the internationally-recognized AMI diploma. Students select one area in which to concentrate their degree: primary (ages 3 - 6) or elementary (ages 6 - 12).

The Montessori Method

Every child has a fascination with the elements of our world-the path of a falling snowflake, the rippling light on a river's surface, a cricket's steady chirp. Children instinctively reach out to experience and understand the world. The Montessori classroom presents the possibilities for this exploration.
