Revised Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification Employees hired on or after April 3, 2009, must complete the newly revised Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification (Rev. 02/02/09) to verify their identity and authorization to work in the United States. The revised form is available at the Human Resources Department and Student Administrative Services and can be downloaded from the HR Website at www.loyola.edu/HR/Forms/. The previous version of the Form I-9 will no longer be valid for use as of April 3, 2009. The revised Form I-9 reflects changes made to the list of documents acceptable for the Form I-9 in accordance with the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) recent interim final rule. The rule narrows the list of acceptable identity documents and further specifies that expired documents are not considered acceptable forms of identification. The rule furthers DHS's ongoing effort to increase the security of the employment authorization verification process. The list of approved documents that employees can present to verify their identity and employment authorization is divided into three sections: · List A documents verify identity and employment authorization. · List B documents verify identity only. · List C documents verify employment authorization only. Two documents have been added to List A and three documents have been removed from List A. Specifically removed from List A are the Temporary Resident Card and Employment Authorization Cards. On page 1 of the instructions for completing the Form I-9 is a section titled “Employers must record in Section 2.” Please review this section to ensure Form I-9s are being completed properly. Human Resources will return forms completed incorrectly, which could potentially cause delays in the set up of new employees.
