SkillSoft, Loyola's online learning resource, is an important way to gain skills and knowledge and to further enhance strengths already gained from experience or education. Through SkillSoft, staff and administrators have access to a library containing more than 1000 courses which can be taken via the Internet from any computer, from any location with Internet access, at any time of the day or night. The SkillSoft library is vast and provides 8 major business-focused solution areas that include: Management & Leadership, Project Effectiveness, Sales & Customer-facing Skills, Finance, HR & Administration, Business Strategy & Operations, Safety & Health, Financial Services Industry, and Professional Effectiveness. Many courses are also offered in Spanish.

SkillSoft Is Easy To Use

SkillSoft is designed with the adult learner in mind. It is easy to navigate, keeps the learner actively engaged through frequent interactivity provided by simulated dialogs, case studies, animations, and audio in behavior modeling, RolePlay exercises, and SkillSimulations. SkillSoft provides opportunities to practice and demonstrate proficiencies, knowledge retention, or expertise through feedback on pre-tests and post-tests. Case studies and simulations become increasingly complex, depending on skill and knowledge of the SkillSoft user and optional audio narration and photo quality visuals further enhance retention.

SkillSoft's bookmarking feature allows learners to move in and out of online courses based on the learner's schedule and needs. Learners can refresh or update themselves on courses that they have successfully taken or can select related courses to build on and to enhance their proficiency. To make the most effecient use of time, SkillSoft allows learners to "test out" of topics in which they can demonstrate proficiency and to take more complex or higher level courses. The Human Resources Department will award certificates for each course that is successfully completed.

Earn Professional Certification or College Credit For SkillSoft Courses

An important testament to the quality of SkillSoft content is the credit recognition these courses have achieved from a growing number of colleges and professional certification programs. Several colleges and universities award college credit to learners who successfully complete SkillSoft courses, including University of Phoenix, American Military University and others. SkillSoft courses have also been approved by ASTD Institute and offer Continuing Professional Education credit by programs such as Project Management Institute's PMP certification, NASBA (National Association of State Boards of Accountancy), the Board of Registered Nurses and the Institute of Supply Management.
