Adrienne Kirby Family Literacy Project

Bridgeport Higher Education Alliance

  • The purpose of the alliance is to network the resources of local universities to help address the needs of the Bridgeport Public High Schools and to increase the number of graduating high school students who advance to college.

Bryant School Partnership – Fairfield University and Bryant Elementary School, Bridgeport, CT

  • Initiated in 2003
  • Professors in the FU Graduate School of Education and Allied Professions (GSEAP) will offer professional development opportunities to Bryant School staff in 2005-06
  • Bryant School Book Club initiated – facilitated by FU student volunteers; books donated by FU University Bookstore (Follett)
  • Math Club initiated – coordinated and facilitated by Jennifer Goldberg (GSEAP) and FU graduate and undergraduate student volunteers
  • Book drive to support Bryant school library

Connecticut Writing Project

FU Dolan School of Business and Bassick High School Business Magnet (Bridgeport, CT)

  • Members of Dolan School of Business (DSB) serve on Bassick Business Magnet Board of Directors
  • Bring Bassick students to campus for demonstrations
  • FU students go to Bassick to help students complete college applications
  • FU professors interact with Bassick teachers

Health Promotions Center (HPC)

Music Program - Fairfield University Music Dept. & Bridgeport Public Schools

  • This is a grant with Bridgeport Board of Education to help support music teachers through professional development.

Project Bi-SEEC – Bilingual Special Education Early Childhood Consultation GSEAP, Norwalk Public Schools and Bridgeport Public Schools

  • This is a grant from the US Department of Education that provides tuition to students that will enroll in 63 credits of course work and field experience (in either the Bridgeport or Norwalk public schools) over a course of four years.  At the end of four years they will earn their Masters along with Special Education and Bilingual Education certifications from the State of Connecticut.   The Norwalk and Bridgeport school systems provide field placement and the students in turn assist the school system by working.

Supported Employment Program - Human Resources & Kennedy Center Fairfield University

  • Employs physically and mentally handicapped individuals via the Kennedy Center in Bridgeport.  The Kennedy Center helps to make appropriate matches between employer and employee and also helps to arrange transportation to and from campus for the employee.
