Loyola University Maryland alumni and their spouses will renew their wedding vows at a special Mass and reception. Last year, 70 couples and their families celebrated this special occasion. The event is complimentary but registration is required by Thursday, Feb. 9.

Ethics Week: "Thank You for Smoking"

Michael Runnels, J.D., professor of law and social responsibility, will screen and facilitate a discussion on “Thank You for Smoking," as part of Loyola's Ethics Week, an annual series of speakers and presentations co-sponsored by the department of law and social responsibility in the Sellinger School; the department of philosophy in Loyola College; the national business honor society Beta Gamma Sigma; the national Jesuit honor society Alpha Sigma Nu; and the office of mission integration. Ethics Week: "Up in the Air" screening and discussion

Andrea Giampetro-Meyer, J.D., chair of the department of law and social responsibility, will screen and facilitate a discussion on Up in the Air, in preparation for a Thursday evening lecture by Tom Hibbs, ethics scholar and film critic. The event is part of Loyola's Ethics Week, an annual series of speakers and presentations co-sponsored by the department of law and social responsibility in the Sellinger School; the department of philosophy in Loyola College; the national business honor society Beta Gamma Sigma; the national Jesuit honor society Alpha Sigma Nu; and the office of mission integration. The Maryland Career Consortium consists of the career center directors and staff of 14 colleges and universities in greater Baltimore region. MCC collectively serves students and alumni through collaborative job fairs, networking events, and graduate school symposium. Through these events MCC seeks to meet the employment needs of the region. The fair is open to any current college students and alumni.

Paula Franzese, J.D., professor of law at Seton Hall University School of Law, and a visiting professor of political science at Barnard College one of the country's leading experts in property law as well as government ethics, will present “Character, Ethics, and Civility: Leading with Conscience,” as part of Loyola's Ethics Week, an annual series of speakers and presentations co-sponsored by the department of law and social responsibility in the Sellinger School; the department of philosophy in Loyola College; the national business honor society Beta Gamma Sigma; the national Jesuit honor society Alpha Sigma Nu; and the office of mission integration. The evening will feature a keynote address by Barbara Chatton, Ph.D., professor emeritus at the University of Wyoming, titled "Anyone Can Fly: Wise Words for Teachers from Children's Literature." Literature provides much more than just reading practice, writing models, and narrow behavioral themes. Good books for young people allow them (and their teachers) to experience empathy, seek justice, laugh together, and to hope for a better world. Dr. Chatton will reveal some of these riches through readings from picture books, poetry, and novels for young people.

The keynote address is followed by a presentation of the 2012 Literacy Leader and Literacy Educator of the Year Awards. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

In honor of Black History Month, BSA will be holding a Night of Arts featuring performances such as poetry, spoken word, and music. The event is a way to share African American culture through forms of art with the Loyola community.

Author Kari O’Grady, Ph.D., leads this presentation that will help prepare professionals to work effectively and sensitively with diverse populations. This 3-CE credit seminar is offered by Loyola University Maryland’s pastoral counseling department as a continuing professional education opportunity for those seeking licensure or non-degree enrollment as special students.
