The Daily Record has named Karyl B. Leggio, Ph.D., dean of the Sellinger School of Business and Management, one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women. Since 1996, The Daily Record has recognized more than 800 high-achieving Maryland women who have made an impact in the community through their leadership, community service, and mentoring.

Leggio joined Loyola in 2008 from the University of Missouri at Kansas City (UMKC), where she served as associate dean for academic programs and the executive director for the Executive MBA program. Under her leadership, Loyola’s Sellinger School—the only private institution in Maryland with AACSB accreditation—was recently ranked among the nation’s top 50 undergraduate business programs by BusinessWeek, and its Executive MBA programs were ranked No. 3 in the world by Financial Times for corporate social responsibility. This year, the Sellinger School launched its first full-time MBA program, the Emerging Leaders MBA, designed for exceptional students who have recently completed their undergraduate degrees.

Leggio, who is also a professor of finance, serves on the advisory boards for the Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore, the Downtown Partnership, the Center Club, the International Association of Jesuit Business Schools; and the Society of Self Fellows at the University of Kansas. She also serves on committees for the Greater Baltimore Committee, the Archdiocese of Baltimore Financial Advisory Committee, and AACSB Reaccreditation Teams.

“Karyl is deeply committed to the Sellinger School’s mission of providing premier business education that inspires students to make a difference in their organizations, and the world around them,” said Charles Maskell, managing member of Chesapeake Corporate Advisors and chair of the Sellinger School’s Board of Sponsors. “She sets the tone for the school through her involvement in the community and active outreach to engage the community, alumni, and corporate partners with students.”

Leggio will be honored among her Top 100 Women colleagues at a ceremony to be held on Monday, May 9, from 5 – 8:30 p.m. at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore. To learn more about the award and the event details, please visit the Top 100 Women event website.
