For the Spillanes, Giving is a Family Tradition Joe and Pat Spillane have a long-standing involvement with Loyola College. The Spillanes began their relationship with Loyola in 1993 when their son, John ’97, entered the College as a freshman. Since then, Pat and Joe have played an integral role not only in the lives of their four children – Joe, John ’97, Tim ’99 and Mike ’04 – but also in the life of Loyola. They have witnessed the growth of their sons and the transformation of the Evergreen Campus, remaining strong supporters of the institution, which has been a significant part of the family’s life. Joe and Pat have been active members of Loyola’s Executive Council of Parents (ECOP), a group of parents committed to the cultivation of relationships between parents and the College. As members of ECOP, Pat and Joe have devoted volunteer and philanthropic support to Loyola because of their deep commitment to the mission of the College and the quality of education it provides. They remained active over the past thirteen years and now act as ECOP Chaircouple for their son Mike’s graduating class – The Class of 2004. As members of ECOP, Pat and Joe also worked as advocates of the College’s Parent’s Fund – a vital source of support for the annual Evergreen Fund. In addition to supporting Loyola annually, Pat and Joe’s generosity has spilled over to The Parent Campaign, a critical component of the historic Preparing Tomorrow Capital Campaign. Pat and Joe have always placed importance on giving to the communities of which they are a part – a value they have inspired in their children, as is evident by the strong support all of their four children have shown Preparing Tomorrow. Tim ’99, has followed in the tradition of his parents and serves as a member of the New York Alumni Campaign Committee. Tim has been instrumental in securing several pledges from fellow alumni for the New York region. After he and wife Michelle (Ingra) ’99 made a gift to the Campaign, Tim encouraged his brothers to follow suit and they did – bringing the New York Campaign even closer to its ambitious $1 million goal. While not an alumnus of Loyola, Joe Spillane Jr. is husband to Charlene (Thomas) ’97. The connection to The Class of 1997 runs deeps as John Spillane ’97 also married an alumna of his graduating class, Robin (Batchelor). The two couples joined Tim in his support of the New York Alumni Campaign. As if Loyola could not become any more a part of the life of the Spillane family, Mike Spillane ’04 is engaged to Clare Donnelly, also Class of 2004. Mike, too, values the importance of giving to his alma mater and joined his brothers in supporting the New York Alumni Campaign. In recognition of the family’s tremendous support for Preparing Tomorrow, a Head Coach’s office in the new Intercollegiate Athletic Complex will be named after Joe Spillane Sr.’s parents, Joe and Marion Spillane. By dedicating so much of their time, energy and support to Loyola, the Spillane family has demonstrated the value they place on their relationship with the College and which they hope to share with future generations. |
