MEETING NOTES
Monday, March 31, 2008
Attendees: Charley Toomey, Chris Gunkel, Gary Hanley, Mike Abromaitis, Chris McFarlane, Marty Kelly
Stickmen's Club Overall Membership
Currently at 99 total members (22 Tewaaraton; 9 All-America; 20 All-Conference; 48 Membership).
We have experienced an increase of 16 members and $6,400 in alumni, parents and friends support over March 31, 2007.
Currently have approximately 35 individuals who were Stickmen’s Club members in 2006-07 that have not joined thus far this season.
We discussed the possibility of a giving level between the Membership ($100) and All-Conference ($500) levels for next season – the conversation will continue throughout the spring and summer.
Gerry Case Memorial Golf Tournament
Event is scheduled for Saturday, September 6, 2008; Location TBD.
This annual event serves as a way to remember Gerry Case, a former Men’s Lacrosse student-athlete who passed away from meningitis as well as a fundraiser for the annual Men’s Lacrosse retreat-utilized to build teamwork and leadership. Next season’s retreat is scheduled for the weekend of September 13, 2008.
A few questions that arose were:
Can someone attend the reception portion of the event w/o playing golf? And if so, is there a different cost?
What is the ceiling on number of golfers that can participate? This number will be determined based on which course is selected to host the event.
Upcoming Alumni Events
Saturday, April 19th at Fairfield – Loyola Athletics will host an event before the 3:00 P.M. game.
E-mails will be sent to alumni within a 1-2 hour radius of Fairfield University to inform them of the event.
Saturday, May 3rd vs. John Hopkins – The Stickmen’s Club & Crease Club (Women’s Lacrosse) will Co-host an event for alumni, parents and friends to celebrate a big home game-day as the women will play Maryland following the men’s game vs. Hopkins.
Mentor/Career Program
We spoke about increasing our efforts in assisting Men’s Lacrosse student-athletes with job and internship placement, resume writing, interviewing, etc.
With the number of successful alumni within the Men’s Lacrosse program, a mentor program might be very valuable to the athletes, particularly if we can begin working with them as freshman and sophomores.
Gary Hanley will get the word out and gauge interest in who would like to mentor a student-athlete. We will then set up a meeting in early fall to go over the program goals, initiatives, guidelines, etc. with those mentors. The third step will be conducting a meeting (tentatively in late October) to have the mentors and student-athletes meet face to face and begin dialogue and planning.
Loyola administration will continue to try and work with Career Services to ensure a smooth and collaborative working environment that benefits the institution, the mentors, and most importantly the student-athletes.
Miscellaneous
Focus on continued improvement of website. Everyone is in favor of the current site but just want to remain progressive in adding features to keep alumni, parents and friends informed and engaged.
Also want to continue to secure members and stress the importance and value of the Stickmen’s Club support.
