Biology

Loyola’s biology program, one of the strongest and most well-respected in the area, provides excellent pre-medical, pre-dental, or pre-veterinary training. In addition, focused interdisciplinary majors in biology/chemistry, biology/psychology, biology/mathematics, biology/physics, and others are available. Loyola’s biology department is a well-rounded one, representing a cross section of the branches of biology. The program is rigorous, and students interested in the major should have a strong background in science and mathematics at the high school level.

Research Opportunities

In addition to your coursework, we strongly encourage you, as a biology student, to get direct experience in your areas of interest, and we will assist you in doing so. Examples might include volunteer or salaried technical positions in research laboratories, in emergency rooms of regional hospitals, or in dental or veterinary settings. Such practical experience is valuable for defining your career goals and is also viewed favorably by professional school admissions committees. Our Hauber Fellowship Program and our Biology Research courses provide students with an opportunity for student-faculty research collaboration on the Loyola campus.
