Writing

The writing major and the interdisciplinary major allow students to develop their talents as writers while grounding themselves in rhetoric and in a long tradition of poetry and prose. Students and faculty in this major — a large and energetic community of poets, writers of short fiction, playwrights, novelists, essayists, rhetoricians, critics, scholars, and professional writers — all share their writing within the departmental community.

The Forum, wholly student-run, is an annual literary magazine devoted to nonfiction prose (the essay) and to photography. The Garland, also wholly student-run, is an annual literary magazine devoted to publishing fiction, poetry, and photographs.
