International Students
Loyola welcomes applications from international students. Loyola University Maryland is authorized under Federal Law to enroll non-immigrant, international students who are citizens of countries other than the United States. Any student who is not a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident of the United States is considered an international student.
English Proficiency
In addition to possessing the regular academic qualifications for admission, international students must demonstrate proficiency in the English language. International students for whom English is not a native language are required to submit the results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). These tests are available in virtually every country and should be taken to allow sufficient time for processing and review. Loyola University Maryland requires a minimum score of 79 on the Internet-based test (TOEFL iBT), a minimum score of 213 if the TOEFL was administered through Computer Adaptive Testing, or a minimum score of 550 on the paper-based TOEFL. TOEFL information can be obtained from the Educational Testing Service.
Submission of SAT I and ACT scores is optional. SAT I and ACT scores will be reviewed as a core component if submitted. Students who do not choose to submit SAT I or ACT scores must submit an additional teacher recommendation or personal statement.
Credential Evaluations
Applicants are required to submit official transcripts from each secondary or post-secondary institution attended. The transcripts must be in English with a grading scale. If the transcript is not in English, the student must submit it to World Education Services for translation of grades and credits. An additional fee may be required.
F-1 Student Visa Requirements
In addition to the above, International students requiring a Form I-20 for an F-1 student visa must complete the following requirements as part of the admission process. International students are not eligible for merit-based scholarship or need-based financial aid.
- International Supplement
International students are required to complete the International Student Supplement. Timely receipt of this form by Loyola will help expedite the issuance of the Form I-20, which is necessary to obtain the F-1 student visa.
- Affidavit of Financial Support
International applicants are required to submit the affidavit of financial support signed by a parent, sponsor, or benefactor stating responsibility for all expenses incurred during the student’s enrollment at Loyola (tuition, room, fees, books and personal expenses). An affidavit of self-support is required for students who plan to support themselves financially.
- Bank Letter
International applicants are required to provide an original bank letter showing funds (in U.S. dollars) available to cover the full cost of attendance for one year at Loyola University Maryland. The bank letter must be on bank stationery with contact information and signed by a bank official.
- Passport Copy
International students are required to submit a photocopy of the current passport.
Enrollment
If admitted, an international student requiring an F-1 student visa must complete the following to enroll:
- Enrollment Deposit
International students are required to prepay one semester's tuition and fees to the University in order to confirm their enrollment.
- SEVIS Processing Fee
International students will be required to pay a $200 SEVIS processing fee directly to the Department of Homeland Security. Students must present a receipt of payment at the time they make application for the student visa at the U.S. Consulate Office and at the time of entry into the U.S.
- Student Health Insurance
International students are required to purchase the Loyola Student Health Insurance Plan. The plan is mandatory and nonwaivable; therefore, the premium will be automatically charged on the tuition bill.
- Proof of Immunity
International students are required to submit proof of immunity to communicable diseases. A tuberculin skin test is required within six months of entry. Health history and immunization forms are available from Loyola's student health services website.
