Why should you join the Evergreen Annual Yearbook Staff? What the staff position involves! -As a member of the yearbook staff you are ultimately responsible for the putting together of the yearbook. Each member is assigned to an event on campus, sports team, or ads throughout the year. These assignments will be chosen during the monthly staff meetings that last about an hour. The yearbook office is also open almost every day for a certain amount of time depending on the editors’ schedules. Each member is encouraged to come during one of the scheduled office hours each week, but of course you are always welcome to come in for more. If you take on an event or team or ad you are responsible for putting together those pages (writing articles or captions, taking pictures, contacting sources or designing layouts). However, if you wish you may work with other staff members on the same assignment. Applies to all majors! -It doesn’t matter what major you are, or plan to be, you will be able to have fun and excel as part of the yearbook staff. There is writing involved, selling advertising space, photography, computer layout design and much more. It is also a great resume builder, it shows organizational and time management skills, teamwork, and/or leadership skills and shows you have effective communication skills. Opportunities to go to many on-campus events! -Since we are all responsible for capturing the entire year at Loyola, we have to include all events such as lectures, concerts, club and sport events, dances and plays. You will be able to experience a wide variety of activities that you may not have gone to under normal circumstances and hey, maybe some of your professors will give you extra credit! Meeting new people, making friends! -Like most clubs, yearbook allows you to meet some really cool people from all the classes. You can make more friends to say ‘Hi’ to while you walk across the bridge or in the Quad. Working together in a fun, easy-going environment is a great way to get to know your classmates and create friendships all while working together to make the yearbook. There are no bribes, just perks! -Although at times it’s hard work, we still have lots of fun. Our biggest activity is Deadline Friday. These are the Fridays when our pages are due, so we have to pump-out all the remaining pages for submission to our publisher. Deadline Friday takes place from early morning until mid to late afternoon. All staff members are expected to be in the office for part of the day depending on classes. The perk of Deadline Friday is lots of FREE FOOD, which is every poor college student’s dream come true. We are also planning on doing some activities as a group off-campus and getting staff t-shirts. We hope you have found something that struck a chord and you find yourself interested in joining the yearbook staff, we would love to have you.
