People with a Purpose

Loyola University Maryland is a private non-profit Catholic institution, employing more than 1200 faculty, staff, and administrators. We have come together as a community with a purpose—to fulfill the Ignatian vision of education, and each individual’s potential. Though many of our faculty and staff members are Catholic, Loyola is enriched by the expertise and perspective of men and women from many different religious, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. We value our employees for the great contributions they make in preparing the next generation of scholars, professionals, and entrepreneurs. We believe it is our calling and privilege to serve others with care for the whole person—the heart of a Jesuit education. We are always looking for those who share our passion to become part of the Loyola community.

Benefits

BENEFITS WELL BEYOND THE BASICS

You would expect a leading educational institution like Loyola University Maryland to offer a benefits package that included medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage—and we do. But the benefits of working at Loyola include much more. From research and sponsored programs, training, a tuition remission program, help with child care, and educational opportunities for your family, Loyola’s benefits are bountiful. Perhaps the greatest benefit of all is being part of a close-knit Jesuit community where people care for one another professionally and personally.

Our Values

Our Founding. And Foundation.

It is only fitting that the Jesuits, the intellects of the Church, were founded in an educational setting. The University of Paris, to be specific. The day was August 15, 1534, and Ignatius of Loyola, along with six fellow students, founded the order of the Society of Jesus. The Jesuits made it their mission to impart cura personalis—or care of the whole person: mind, body, and spirit. During the centuries that have followed, Jesuits have become synonymous with higher education as a result of their extensive work as teachers, researchers, and world travelers—actively searching for knowledge through their broad life experiences. All in preparation to better serve humanity. Their purpose-driven order set high standards of academic excellence, service, community building, appreciation for other cultures, and the ability to see God in all things. The same high standards upon which St. Ignatius built the Jesuit order are the hallmarks of the institution that bears his name—Loyola University Maryland.

Governance

Guiding More Than Minds

At Loyola, members of our faculty, staff and administration extend their insight and influence beyond the classroom and office into the governance of our university. Their involvement ensures that we continue on the path to achieving our goals. Our faculty, staff, and administrators participate in setting policies that govern faculty tenure and compensation, as well as addressing all pertinent issues school-wide, and relaying that information to our Loyola community.

Intellectual Passion

A Loyola education is the foundation for a rich and meaningful intellectual life. Through our core curriculum, we expose our students to critical knowledge in a wide variety of subjects—both familiar and completely new. We challenge them to learn beyond their comfort zone, but also ensure that they are taught, tutored, mentored, and—this is where you come in—cared about by our faculty and staff. We encourage each of our students to develop lifelong habits of curiosity, integrity, persistence, and a passion for the pursuit of knowledge. Traits exemplified by the faculty members who make up our vibrant, active intellectual community. Traits that will benefit our students for the rest of their lives.
