Application Deadlines

Ph.D. in Pastoral Counseling

  • Fall Semester Only: April 1

M.S./Ph.D. in Pastoral Counseling

Master of Science in Pastoral Counseling

Master of Arts in Spiritual and Pastoral Care

Certificate of Advanced Study in Pastoral Counseling

  • Fall Semester: April 1
  • Spring Semester: November 1
  • Summer Semester: April 1

Applications will continue to be reviewed after the application deadline on a space-available basis.

International Students Application Deadlines

Fall Semester:  April 1

Spring Semester: September 15

International applicants must submit all documents by the above deadlines.

Pastoral Counseling (Ph.D./M.S.-Ph.D.)

It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that a completed application and all supplemental materials are received by the application deadline. Supplemental materials, once received, become the property of Loyola University Maryland and cannot be returned.

  • Application form.
  • Nonrefundable $60 application fee.
  • Official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended.
  • All foreign transcripts must be translated and evaluated by an approved evaluation services (naces.org).
  • Essay
  • Two professional letters of recommendation
  • Professional resume
  • TOEFL or IELTS test scores are required if the student's native language is not English. Loyola's ETS code is 5370. Loyola requires a minimum score of 80 on the TOEFL or an IELTS band score of 7.
  • Official GRE scores from the general exam taken within the past five years.
  • International Student Supplemental Form (required only if a student visa is needed)

After review of the admission file by the committee, applicants may be contacted to schedule an interview. An online, video interview is permitted for international students and those who live more than two hours from campus.

If an applicant with a master's degree from another institution is judged to be qualified for admission to the Ph.D. program but is lacking in specific areas of preparation, an assessment of prerequisites will be made at the time of admission and the applicant upon acceptance into the Ph.D. program will be required to take those courses.

Ph.D. candidates applying for advanced standing must also submit:

  • All graduate course syllabi from counseling courses, as requested.
  • All clinical evaluations from practicums, internships, etc., as requested

 

MS & MS/PhD Group Admission Interview Process

The group admissions interview process for admission into the MS and MS/PhD degrees in Pastoral Counseling at Loyola University Maryland, which are CACREP accredited, clinical mental health counseling (CHMC) degrees, involve a full morning or afternoon of activities.  After an applicant has completed his/her application, the applicant's file will be reviewed and a determination will be made regarding whether the applicant is invited to continue the admission process. 

Those applicants invited to continue the interviewing process will receive an email indicating the specific day and time for the Group Admissions Interview process.  This day will typically by a Friday or Saturday starting in late April.

The group admissions interview process itinerary is as follows:

  • Arrive, Welcome and Explanation of the process      20 minutes
  • Writing and Basic Math Exercises                               30 minutes
  • Group Exercise                                                           50 minutes
  • Individual Meetings (20 mins./applicant)                   80 minutes

The Group Admissions Interview Process will take approximately 3 hours to complete.  Once an applicant has had his or her individual meeting the process is over for that applicant and they are free to depart.

One of three outcomes is possible for applicants applying to the MS in Pastoral Counseling in the wake of the PC Group Admission Interview Process: 1. the applicant is accepted into the MS program; 2. the applicant is accepted in the MS program on probation (applicants accepted into the MS program on probation will be allowed to register for the first two MS course sequence); or 3. the applicant is denied acceptance to the program.  These decisions are final.+ The applicant will be notified within a week of the Group Admissions Interview whether the applicant is accepted into the program.

MS/PhD applicants will receive notification within two weeks of the Group Admissions Interview Process whether they have been accepted into the MS/PhD program.

 

Pastoral Counseling and Spiritual Care (M.A./M.S./C.A.S.)
