Digital Media, Computer Science, or Engineering Tutors

($16/hr, 10 hours/week)

Howard County Library System (HCLS) is looking for tutors to teach middle and high school students about new technologies, basic engineering, and computer science.

DUTIES - Teach students to use software (e.g., iMovie, Garage Band, Autocad, Mudbox, blender, Final Cut Pro, Illustrator, Photoshop, Visio) or introductory coding (e.g., Visual Basic, Java, PHP) to create simplistic web sites, products (photo gallery), or games (tic tac toe). Tutors will provide feedback on students' projects and collaborate with colleagues to prepare and teach classes to middle and high school students.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE - two or four-year college degree (or in pursuit of degree). Demonstrated interest in working with teens. Extraordinary customer service skills and professinal attitude. Demonstrate ability to communicate technical information in everyday terms. Experience in windows (PC/Mac), Linux preferred. Current valid driver's license.

SCHEDULE - flexible schedule, weekdays and weekends.

TOPICS - 3D & CAD; software development and programming, PHP, Exterminator, finding and understanding software bugs, the logic of computers, Java, Build a Computer, IT and Engineering careers, and others TBD.
