Art History Degree Information

Students at Loyola may complete a major in visual arts with a concentration in art history, an interdisciplinary major, a major in visual arts with a concentration in interarts, a minor in art history, a minor in interarts, or take art history courses as electives. Art history courses also fulfill requirements in several interdisciplinary minors such as American Studies, Gender Studies, Medieval Studies, Catholic Studies, Italian Studies, Asian Studies, and others.

  • AH 109 - Non-Western Art or AH 110 - Western Art: Paleolithic to Gothic or AH 111 - Western Art: Renaissance to Contemporary
  • PT 270 - Basic Digital Photography or SA 224 - Two-Dimensional Design or SA 227 - 3-D Design in Art and Engineering
  • AH 350 - Visual Thinking
  • One AH 100-level or 300-level course
  • Five AH 300-level or 400-level courses
  • One AH 300-level or 400-level course outside of the dominant European tradition (AH 307, AH 326, AH 327, and AH 330. AH 360 and AH 402 may count depending topic)
  • AH capstone consisting of an AH 400-level seminar or independent study (AH 401) or 3-credit internship (AH 403)
One course from the following:
  • SA 225 - Drawing
  • PT 300-level or 400-level course
  • SA 300-level or 400-level course

InterArts Major
