Steven C. Hughes Wins 2010 Nachbahr Award

History Professor Steven C. Hughes has won the 2010 Nachbahr Award, which recognizes Loyola faculty for outstanding scholarly or creative achievement in the humanities.  The award has been offered annually since 1995 to honor the life and work of Bernard Nachbahr, a long-time Loyola philosophy professor and first director of the Center for the Humanities.  A member of the Loyola faculty since 1985, Professor Hughes is the author of two acclaimed scholarly monographs.  The first, Crime, Disorder, and the Risorgiment the Politics of Policing in Bologna, was published by Cambridge University Press in 1994, followed by a paperback edition in 2002.  The second, Politics of the Sword: Dueling, Honor, and Masculinity in Modern Italy was published in 2007 by the Ohio University Press.  In addition, he has published twenty academic articles, several of which have been translated into Italian.  He will deliver a public lecture on the theme of "The Life of the Mind" and receive the award at the Fall 2010 Honors Convocation.
