Italian Studies Minor course acceptance provisions:

Please note that some courses DO NOT ALWAYS COUNT.

1. "+" Indicates "second tier" courses. To be included as part of the Italian Studies Minor, the course in a given semester must meet ONE of the following requirements:

            i. It is taught in Italian about Italian materials.

ii. The student must complete a final project involving Italy (its culture, literature and/or history/social situation).

iii. The course must contain 50% or more course material involving Italian/Italian tradition as measured through:

                        α. written work (e.g., 1 / 2 papers or a higher percentage, such as 2/3) AND

β. topics covered through lecture, reading and testing; e.g., Italy and Germany in the 1940's; The history of Franco-Italian immigration (one-half for French to Italy, one-half for Italy to France); The influence of German romanticism on Italian literature in the 19^th   century (initial materials on Germany, most of readings Italian literature); etc.

These are the conditions approved by the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee and cannot be circumvented.

2. These courses MUST BE APPROVED each time by an Italian Studies Minor Advisor: please see the program advisors to secure approval.

3. Other courses may be approved IF THEY MEET THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS and THEY MEET THE MINOR DISTRIBUTION OF COURSES ACROSS DISCIPLINES.

4. Departments may propose courses for inclusion in the Minor (either regularly or as a "second tier" course) by submitting the syllabus and explanation to the Coordinators of the Italian Studies Minor.
