Spring Poetry Recitation Contest

Every spring semester, the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures sponsors a Poetry Recitation Contest in which students in Modern Languages courses compete in performing poetry recitations in the language studied.

Spring 2011 Contest Winners

Eligibility

Students currently enrolled in Modern Language courses, levels 104 and up are eligible to participate. Students who wish to participate must also have the support of their language instructor, as their signature is required on the application form.

Process to Sign Up

Application forms can be obtained from Natalie Rock in MH 454, the individual professor serving as moderator that semester, or the Language Learning Center, MH 443. They should be filled out and given to Natalie Rock in MH 454. The application deadline is announced at the start of the spring semester. 

Dates

The exact date on which the contest will take place will be announced at the beginning of the spring semester. The contest usually takes place in the evening and is followed by a reception.

Requirements

With your professor's input, choose a poem in the language you study at Loyola (French, Italian, Spanish, German, Chinese or Japanese). Complete and return the application for to your professor or to Natalie Rock in MH 454. Provide three copies of the poem along with the application form. These will are for the judges to follow along and gently prompt you if necessary. Then, memorize your poem! Work with your professor to master it! Be prepared to introduce the poem - author, time period, why you chose it, other details you'd like to share.
