In addition to Effective Writing, I teach courses in fiction and creative nonfiction. Last year, I taught a flash nonfiction course and conducted a small novel workshop through the Loyola Writing Center, where I also work as a tutor.
Over the past couple of years, I've become increasingly interested (perhaps obsessed?) with extreme economy and efficiency in prose. Lately, much of what I've been writing has been in the flash genre—fiction and nonfiction of between 250 and 1000 words. Below, you'll find a recent flash nonfiction piece that was published in the Baltimore Review.
