I write stories, essays, and novels. Here are some updates:

I have a story, "Tarzan, Again," and two essays -- "The Last Draft" and "My Father's Secrets" -- coming out in literary journals this year. "My Father's Secrets" was a finalist in a national competition (1700 entries) sponsored by Creative Nonfiction. Also, I have a novel, "Missile Paradise," coming out in the spring of 2016.

In 2012 and 2013, I traveled through 45 states to perform my one-man show (a comic monologue) in more than 80 cities in the U.S. to promote my last book, From Animal House to Our House: A Love Story -- a memoir about how my then-girlfriend (now wife) and I bought condemned property, a former fraternity house, and brought it back to its original Victorian splendor when we knew nothing about fixing up houses.

You can read my blog about my road trip here.
And check out the big old house we rehabbed here.
Here's my funny video trailer for the book.

In 2008, I took a leave from Loyola to direct the Marshall Island Story Project in Micronesia, a program that helps Marshallese college students learn how to gather stories from their elders and post those stories on a dedicate website, which the students have learned to build. This project is now complete. You can see it here.

Currently, I am writing a book (nonfiction) about this experience, called In Search of the Island Story Tellers.
