The Comparative Cultures and Literary Studies program examines culture and literature across linguistic, national and cultural boundaries. Offered by the department of Modern Languages and Literatures, as a major or a minor, the program reflects Loyola's strong commitment to providing students with an international and global perspective. Unlike other interdisciplinary programs the CCLS major/minor has a strong foreign language component and traditionally appeals to studentsts who love language and culture and want to be active and marketable in a global world. Major: 12 courses required. The general make-up includes 2 200-level language courses and 10 courses distributed as follows: 1 Intro to Comp. Studies. 4 courses from the core CCLS offerings. 3 300-level courses from contributing depts. 2 300-level courses in the literature or culture of either French, German, or Spanish speaking countries, or: 2 CCLS courses, or: 2 approved 300-level courses from participating departments.
Minor: 6 Courses required. 1 Introduction to Comparative Studies. 2 200 level language courses. 2 Courses at the 300-level, either from the core CCLS or French, German, Spanish lit. or culture, or courses from the regular offerings of participating departments as approved by the advisor in consultation with the CCLS committee, or 1 300 level course in a participating department.
