Essay Prize for Intermediate-Level and Advanced-Level Students - A prize of $75.00 and a book will be awarded to one student from the intermediate level of French, German, Italian and Spanish.
- A prize of $100 and a book will be awarded to one student from the advanced level of French, German, Italian and Spanish.
- All students who have received a B in the first semester and who are showing an equivalent level in the second semester mid-term grades, if applicable, are eligible.
- Application deadline: Monday, April 3. Application forms will be available from your professors, the Language Learning Center (Maryland Hall, 433). They should be filled out and given to Natalie Rock in MH 454.
- Contestants will meet on Tuesday, April 4 or Wednesday, April 5 in Language Lab II (MH 442) from 3.00-4.00.
- The intermediate level will write an essay of approximately two pages in the language studied on a subject given at that time. The use of dictionaries will be permitted.
- The advanced level will write an essay of three to five pages in the language studied on a topic to be announced and made available in the Language Learning Center on Monday, April 3. The use of dictionaries will be permitted.
- Winners will receive the prizes at the Awards Ceremony during the departmental Awards Ceremony on Friday, April 21, 2006 at 4.00 in the HUG Lounge.

The Poetry Contest The Poetry Contest will take place on Wednesday, April 9, 2008, 6:30—8:30 pm in the 3rd Floor Reading Room, Student Center.
