Dr. Arthur C. Abramson and Ms. Lynn Katzen of the Baltimore Jewish Council speak about Israel, the Presidency, and the American Political Process: Past Perspectives and Current Dilemmas

Dr. Arthur C. Abramson and Ms. Lynn Katzen of the Baltimore Jewish Council (BJC) will speak on Tuesday, October 12, 2004, in McManus Theater at 5:30 pm.  Their presentation, titled "Israel, the Presidency, and the American Political Process: Past Perspectives and Current Dilemmas," features role play and conversation that engages the audience in the reality of American policy development toward the Middle East from the post-WWII Truman administration through the current administration.  Informed by historical research and the diaries and personal writings of cabinet members, the Abramson-Katzen presentation reveals the challenge of policy-making in a world of opinions, crossed values, and evolving public debate.

The Student Government Association and the Office of Academic Affairs are sponsoring this lecture as the second in a series that examines the impact of changing Middle East politics on American decision-making internationally.  Dr. Abramson is an expert in Middle East politics.  Currently serving as the Executive Director of the Baltimore Jewish Council, he holds a doctorate from UCLA in political science.  Ms. Katzen joined the BJC in 1993 after working with Soviet immigrants settling in Baltimore, and working as a tracing specialist at the Holocaust and War Victims Tracing and Information Center of the American Red Cross.  She holds a MSW degree from the University of Maryland and a MA in Jewish Studies from the Baltimore Hebrew University.  Dr. Abramson and Ms Katzen welcome this opportunity to share their knowledge and enthusiasm for informed conversation about political affairs and the history of American foreign policy.

We hope you will make time to attend this important presentation, the question-and-answer segment, and the reception following the evening’s event.  Join us and share your perspective!
