Loyola College in Maryland welcomes author and columnist, Ellis Cose, as he delivers the Martin Luther King, Jr., Convocation address on Wednesday, January 22, 2003. The convocation will begin at 7 p.m. in the College's McGuire Hall, followed by a reception and book signing at 8:15 p.m.
Cose is the author of The Envy of the World, published earlier this year, which explores the challenges facing black men in America today, including racism, stereotyping, and an unjust penal system. He is also the author of several other best-selling books about race in America, including Color-Blind: Seeing Beyond Race in a Race-Obsessed World (1998) and The Rage of a Privileged Class (1994). His books will be on sale throughout the night for the book signing. Biography Cose began his career as a weekly columnist for The Chicago Sun-Times at the age of 19. He has been a contributor and press critic for Time magazine, president and CEO of the Institute for Journalism Education, a chief writer for USA Today, and a member of the editorial board of the Detroit Free Press. Since 1993, he has been a contributing editor for Newsweek magazine. Cose published The Envy of the World earlier this year. Other critically acclaimed books by Cose include The Best Defense (1999), Color-Blind: Seeing Beyond Race in a Race-Obsessed World (1998) and The Rage of a Privileged Class (1994). |
