Engineering courses benefit from HP Tablet PCs

Loyola's department of engineering is integrating HP tablet PCs into four undergraduate engineering courses to improve student learning of engineering computation and modeling skills. These four courses—which include instruction in spreadsheets, mathematical analysis programs, object-oriented programming and computer-aided design—are being revised to enhance faculty-student interaction in the classroom. The students use the tablets on problem-solving exercises, and instructors monitor their activities in real time to identify misconceptions and provide immediate help with trouble spots. The intent is that by the end of the project, student performance on standard assignments will improve, allowing more challenging topics to be covered and/or course pace to be increased.
