HP Tablet PCs: Impact on Teaching EG426 Computer-Aided Simulation and Design – Dr. Robert Bailey, Associate Professor In this course, the Tablet PCs are being used as computer-aided-design (CAD) workstations—one for each student. The instructor uses a tablet to demonstrate the use of CAD software (Autodesk Inventor) and to annotate directly on drawings. Classroom management software is used to remotely observe student development of engineering drawings, giving the instructor a more efficient means of identifying problem areas and observing student proficiency. Student drawings are graded electronically using digital ink. EG497/498 Engineering Design Project I/II – Dr. Robert Pond, Associate Professor In this team-based capstone design course, each team is given an HP Tablet PC to use on their project. During weekly in-class team meetings, the teams use their Tablet PCs to generate notes, capture design ideas, and update project management plans/schedules. The instructor uses classroom management software to remotely examine team progress (as reflected in the Tablet-based work) without interfering with team member interactions. The instructor can move from one team to the next and decide when a personal intervention might actually be helpful. The project Gantt charts are reviewed on line. Learn more about the program:
