Faculty News

Dr. Headley published an article on public sculpture in the Encyclopedia of New England (Yale University Press, 2005).

Dr. Nygren received tenure and has been promoted to Associate Professor.

In spring of 2009 Dr. Nygren taught a course on the history of prints which met 7 times in the printroom of the Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA). He has also been asked to serve on the Accessions Committee of the BMA.

Dr. Nygren organized and chaired an amusing and successful session on artistic wit at the SECAC Conference in Mobile, AL in October, 2009.

In December of 2008 Dr. Nygren presented a paper, "Masaccio's Waves: Time, Motion and the Perspectival Narrative," at the Barnard Medieval and Renaissance Conference.

Dr. Nygren's article, "Prefering to Frequent the Doors of Churches: Iconography, Observance, and Viewer Involvement in a Predella Panel by Fra Angelico," has been published in the 2009 volume of the SECAC Review.

Dr. Nygren's article, “Cipresso or Tronco? Filippo Lippi's Beffa for the Nuns of Le Murate" has been accepted for publication in Source: Notes in the History of Art.

Dr. Nygren's article, "A Friend of the Bridegroom or a Lover of the Bride? The Cuckolding Angel in Filippo Lippi’s Uffizi Madonna," appeared in the Fall 2008 issue of Source: Notes in the History of Art.

In June of 2008, Ms. O'Brien presented a paper, "Seeing Women in Byzantine Art: Continuity and Change," at the Fourteenth Berkshire Conference on the History of Women in Minneapolis.

Dr. Bonnell was a contributing editor for From Shrines to Showcases: Masterpieces of Nigerian Art by Ekpo Eyo ( Ministry of Information and Communication, Nigeria, 2008).

Dr. Bonnell was a contributing editor for the exhibition catalog Man Ray, African Art and the Modernist Lens by Wendy Grossman (University of Minnesota Press, 2009). This exhibition is on display at the Phillips Collection through January 10, 2010. She recorded several audio stops for the audio tour and will be giving tours of the exhibition together with Ms. Grossman in November.

Also in November Dr. Bonnell will participate in a roundtable panel discussion at the Smithsonian's National Museum of African Art regarding the African objects included in Man Ray, African Art and the Modernist Len.


Student and Alumni News

In October 2009 Colleen Grant ('11) presented a paper on Giulio Romano at the SECAC Conference in Mobile, AL.

Colleen Grant ('11) interned at the Walters Art Museum during the summer of 2009.

Molly Muraca ('09) had a spring 2009 internship at the Baltimore Museum of Art.

Alyssa Porambo ('08) had an internship at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in the fall of 2008.

Amanda Mikhail ('11) had a summer 2009 internship at the Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art in New York.

In the summer of 2009 Nell Fortune-Greeley ('10) was an intern at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, DC.

Lauren Peck ('10) once again interned at Sotheby's in Philadelphia during the summer of 2009.

Mary Cameron ('09) is curently attending American Unversity Master's Program in Art History.

Lauren Murphy ('08) is pursuing a master's degree in museum studies at New York University.

Jessica Urban ('08) is pursuing a master's degree in the history of art at Edinburgh University in the U.K. 

Dan Corrigan ('09) is pursuing a master's degree at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.

Jessica Henderson ('09) is pursuing a degree in English at the University of Delaware.

Alyssa Porambo ('08) is the manger of public relations and publications at The Washington Ballet. 

Laura Klebanow ('08) is employed by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

fine Arts NEWS AND EVENTS

  • The Poisoned Cup Players present: Alice Invents a Little Game & Alice Always Wins in the Black Box Theatre in the DiChiaro Student Center on the Loyola University Campus. The play is written by Nick Flynn and directed by Bobbi Datz. Performances at 8 pm on Nov. 19, 20, and 21 and at 2 pm on Sunday, Nov. 22.
  • Dr. Jim Bunzli is directing The Exonerated at Everman Theatre (1727 N. Charles St., Baltimore). Written by Jennifer Blank and Erik Jensen The Exonerated is based on interviews, transcripts and letters and tells the true stories of six wrongfully convicted survivors of death row. Performances are Monday evenings until 12/14.
  • The Loyola College Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Anthony Villa will perform on Thurs., December 3 at 8 pm in McManus Theatre.
  • There will be a gospel concert featruing Choosen Generation together with a numbner of local choirs and gospel choirs in the Alumni Chapel on Saturday, November 21 at 7 pm.
  • The 2009 Faculty Biennial exhibition with be on display in the Julio Fine Arts Gallery on the Loyola University campus from November 11-December 9.
  • In late October Colleen Grant ('11) presented a paper on the Renaissance painter Giulio Romano at the Southeastern College Art Conference in Mobile, AL. Dr. Nygren chaired a session at the same conference.
