Matt Mulcahy graduated from Macalester College in 1990, worked for two years at the National Museum of American History, and then, missing Minnesota winters, returned to the Twin Cities for graduate school. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in 1999. His first book, Hurricanes and Society in the British Greater Caribbean, 1624-1783, was published by the Johns Hopkins University Press in 2006.  A paperback edition was published in 2008.  He is currently beginning a project exploring the great 1692 earthquake in Jamaica.  His first article from that research, “The Port Royal Earthquake and the World of Wonders in Seventeenth-Century Jamaica” appeared in the Fall 2008 issue of Early American Studies
