CLASS OF 2012 - PLEASE NOTE!!
IMPORTANT CHANGES WITH STUDY ABROAD AT LOYOLA:
  • Only ONE deadline to apply for study abroad: December 1, 2009!

All students who want to study abroad in the Fall 2010 OR in the Spring 2011 will have to apply by December 1st 2009 (There will be only 1 deadline to apply to study abroad each year, instead of 2)

  • Alcala, Spain:

Starting with the Fall 2010, Spanish majors and minors will only be allowed to study in Alcalá during the Fall semester (in Spanish).  Spanish minors with a major in Business will still be considered for the Spring semester.  The Spring semester (mostly in English) will be reserved to non-Spanish majors.  All students who want to study abroad in the Spring 2011 will have to apply by December 1st, 2009.

  • Cork, Ireland:

Starting with the Fall 2010, students will be able to study in Cork Ireland either for the Fall semester only, the entire academic year, or the Spring semester only. All students who want to study abroad in the Spring 2011 will have to apply by December 1st, 2009.

  • New Loyola exchange in Singapore:

Starting with the Fall 2010 and the Spring 2011, Loyola will offer a one-semester exchange program in Singapore (entirely in English), in collaboration with the Nanyang Technological University. Loyola’s partnership is with the College of Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences.  Our main connection is with the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information which is considered a top journalism and media school in Asia. Students will also have access to courses at the Nanyang Business School, which has an MBA program that was recognized by London’s Financial Times as being in the top 25 in the world.

  • New On-Site Program Director in Leuven, Belgium:

For the next two academic years, Dr. Kathy Forni, Associate Professor in our English Department, will serve as our new On-Site Program Director at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, in Belgium.  In Leuven, she will supervise 68 international residents in our International Nachbahr House, guide several trips to Belgium, Holland, France, Italy and Germany for our students.  She will also teach and supervise our program in collaboration with Ms. Christel Snels, our Associate Director. Dr. Forni has taught at Loyola since 1995.  Her focus is on Medieval literature, especially Chaucer.

OIP Mission Statement

The Mission of Loyola University Maryland is to inspire students to learn, lead and serve in a diverse and changing world.  Loyola, therefore, has a special commitment to promote international education both on campus and abroad.  The Jesuit mission is fundamentally associated with a global and open-minded vision that highly values and respects the rich cultural and spiritual diversity that characterizes human experience as a whole.

Loyola’s Office of International Programs strives to serve this mission through its broad offering of study abroad opportunities and its persistent support of international activities on campus.  Its study abroad programs combine some of the best academic offerings overseas with a broad range of service opportunities while immersing our students in other cultures.  On campus, the Office of International Programs aims to promote a more diverse and international climate to our students who, for different reasons, are unable to travel or study in a foreign country.  Its main goal is to help our students better understand and serve our world.  This plays a most valuable role in Loyola’s ability to address the central need for diversity and internationalization in modern education.
