Loyola University Maryland's Affiliation in Accra, Ghana (NYU)

BACKGROUND:

Since 2004 NYU in Manhattan has had a program in Accra, the capital of Ghana in West Africa.  We have now formed an affiliation with NYU to send our students along with their students to this capital city.  The cost of this program is similar to the cost of staying at Loyola.  All courses are in English which is the official language of the country.  Ten trips are available and community service will be done by all.

CRITERIA FOR ACCEPTANCE:

  • Typically sophomores and juniors with a cumulative average of 3.0, but students with a 2.8 average should apply         
  • Students who can find courses which fit their Loyola program and allow full-time participation and who are neither on disciplinary probation nor have a history of serious disciplinary problems should apply.

ACADEMICS:

Consult the Office of International Programs as early as possible to get assistance on course selections at Loyola so you are prepared for Ghana.

  • This Program serves nearly all majors
  • A CQPA of 2.8 is required
  • You will take 16 credits of course work
  • You will attend 3 universities during your semester: NYU, University of Ghana, Ashesi University
  • All courses are in English
  • Grades and transcripts come from NYU and transfer to Loyola
  • Semester dates are similar to our dates

HOUSING:

  • NYU has its own housing six blocks from the academic center. 
  • Rooms are for 2 or 3 with a bathroom and shower for each room
  • There are 2 concierges in the housing center.  Safe Tech provides security for all the facilities
  • Cooking can be done in the center.  One meal a day is provided at a nearby restaurant
  • A weekend home visiting program is available

COST:

On an affiliation you pay nothing to Loyola.  Your financial aid, except for Loyola money, goes with you.
     
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

An application must be submitted by December 1st for the fall or spring term. Applications require a brief essay and advisor's signature.
