History

Bangkok is located in Southeast Asia, rich with history and culture.  Of the many areas of the world that are growing in importance, the area known as the Pacific Rim is certainly one of the most important.   Loyola has ties with Assumption University.

Criteria for Acceptance

  • Typically sophomores and juniors with a cumulative average of 3.0, but also students with a 2.50 average should apply.
  • Students who can find courses which fit their Loyola Program and allow full-time participation and who are neither on disciplinary probation nor have a history of serious disciplinary problems should apply.

Academics

  • Consult the Office of International Programs as early as possible to get assistance on course selections at Loyola so that you are prepared for Assumption.
  • This program is designed to accommodate all majors.
  • All courses are taught in English.

Length of Stay

  • This program is for one semester from late May to mid November.

Housing

  • Students will receive a Pacific Rim experience while living in a safe and comfortable environment.  Rooms are air-conditioned and have private baths.

Cost

  • Students are eligible for consideration for all forms of federal, state, institutional and private sources of aid, except the Federal Work-Study Program.  Students studying abroad for a semester or full academic year will forfeit the value of a Federal Work-Study assignment.
  • The cost is equivalent to the tuition, room charge (Ahern), and a reduced comprehensive  fee paid to Loyola, plus a program fee.
  • Loyola Financial Aid applies.

  • opportunities to volunteer in orphanages, elementary schools, academic departments or offices at the University.

  • visa and evacuation insurance
  • a partial meal plan
  • a round-trip airline ticket
  • a stay in Chiang Mai which includes a four-day trek to visit hill tribes
  • several days on Koh Samui, an island resort
  • several one-day field trips and on the way home a stopover of several days in Hong Kong

Application Requirements

  • An application along with a brief essay and two letters of reference must be submitted by December 1st.
