History

Newcastle is located 1 1/2 hours from Edinburgh, Scotland and 3 hours from London.  The University is located in northeast England on the North Sea.  The  Scandinavian countries, Germany and Ireland are accessible by ferry.  The continent can now be reached by rail.

Criteria for Acceptance

• Typically sophomores and juniors with a cumulative average of 3.0, but also students with a 2.50 average should apply.
• Students who can find courses which fit their Loyola Program and allow full-time participation and who are neither on disciplinary probation nor have a history of serious disciplinary problems should apply.

Academics

• Consult the Office of International Programs as early as possible to get assistance on course selections at Loyola, so that you are prepared for Newcastle.
• This program serves students in nearly all majors.
• Pre-med students can be accommodated.
• Business majors, however, must be flexible; there are business courses but Newcastle does not have an undergraduate Business School, as does Loyola.

Length of Stay

• This is a one year program.  The Fall term runs mid-September until early February while the Spring term runs from early February until mid June.  We go in early September and are home for Christmas break.

Housing

• Three apartment complexes are utilized by Loyola students and other international students.
• Generally, two Americans and four Brits or Internationals will share a suite of 6 private rooms with 2 baths, a common kitchen, a sitting area and a dining room.

Cost

• Students are eligible for consideration for all forms of federal, state, institutional and private sources of aid, except the Federal Work-Study Program.  Students studying abroad for a semester or full academic year will forfeit the value of a Federal Work-Study assignment.
• The cost is equivalent to the tuition, room charge (Ahern), and a reduced comprehensive fee paid to Loyola, plus a program fee.
• Loyola Financial Aid applies.
