Graduate Assistantships

Although the Graduate Program in Liberal Studies does not offer graduate assistantships specific to the program, several college-wide assistantships are available on a competitive basis. Please use this page to investigate assistantship opportunites available to all graduate students at Loyola College.

You should contact the program contact person for information and qualifications for any of the assistantships listed here. The Liberal Studies program director, the office of graduate admission, and the program adminstrative assistant are eager to assist you in the process of applying for any of the assistantships mentioned on this page.

The Division of Student Development supports programming and services through several departments. The Division plays a vital role in providing all students important co-curricular learning experiences and services.

Depending on availability, any of the assistantships listed below may be vacant during any academic year. Candidates interested in a particular assistantship may contact the department directly. Candidates interested in any of the positions should complete an application.

Campus Ministry (Retreat Assistant): Collaborates fully and actively in the ongoing programs and outreach of the Office of Campus Ministry. Engages in supervision with the Director of Campus Ministry of another professional minister delegated by the Director.

New Student Programs: Assists the Director of Leadership and New Student Programs in planning, implementing and evaluating a wide variety of programs designed specifically to meet the transitional needs of new students.

Leadership and Programming: Assists the Director and Assistant Director of Leadership and New Student Programs in planning and evaluating leadership development efforts for Loyola College’s undergraduate population.

ALANA Services: Promotes diversity awareness on campus by assisting the ALANA Service Office with cultural programming, leadership development, and the mentoring program for ALANA students.  Assists with the coordination of activities for ALANA first-year students.

Career Development & Placement Center: Provide career services primarily to undecided majors, sophomores, graduate students and alumni.

Graduate Resident Coordinator: Supports Assistant Director in the management of residential area. Responsibilities include staff supervision, staff development, and emergency duty coverage. GRC’s serve as hearing officers for the College, are involved in a variety of office committees, and live on campus.
Compensation:  Partial tuition remission ($2250/semester), furnished apartment, local phone, and stipend ($1360/semester).

Student Government Association: Supervise and support the Student Government Association, help organize and participate in ongoing leadership programs, and attend and supervise functions assigned by the Director of Student Activities.

Dean of Students: Assist in the development and implementation of multicultural initiatives for the student Development division as well as assist the ADS with various projects and initiatives.

Health Center: High level of responsibility involved in researching information for grants and programs. Assist with data entry for standard immunization requirements. Coordinate activities for Student Health Advisory Committee.

Office of Annual Giving: This position is available for the 2006-2007 academic year, and requires 800 hours of work over the course of the year (18-20 hours per week). Flexible hours during the day and some evening hours are available. Applicants must be enrolled as full-time students in one of Loyola College's graduate programs. Computer skills are a must including superior skills with Excel, Access, Word Perfect, and Microsoft Office applications. Ideal candidates will not be averse to some evening or weekend hours and gaining valuable experience working with undergraduate students, learning about fund-raising, and assisting during division-wide events. Applicants should be mature, friendly, outgoing, and possess strong time management skills to balance school and work demands. Compensation:Tuition remission for two graduate courses per semester (fall and spring) $8.11/hour stipend to be paid twice monthly

Recreational Sport (Fitness and Facilities): Coordinate Fitness Center hiring, training, operations and programming. Provide overall support for the Department of Recreational Sports for special events planning and facility scheduling and supervision.

Recreational Sports (Intramural Sports & Club Sports): Assist with the Club Sports President’s Council and club officers, special event programming and planning.

Recreational Sports (Outdoor Adventures): Assist the Director with implementation and planning of outdoor adventure trips and trainings. Involved in management of Outdoor Center and Climbing Wall personnel, as well as the daily workings of the Outdoor Center.
