Major in Statistics After the traditional grounding in Calculus and Statistics in the first year, the Sophomore year exposes students to courses in various other branches of mathematics that provide a solid foundation for their further study of statistics. The choice of concentration in the statistics major partially determines what sequence of courses the student pursues in junior and senior year. First Year
1. While CS 202 is not a requirement for the degree, the practice of statistics requires a solid knowledge of computing. We strongly recommend that you take CS 202 either in the spring of freshman year or your sophomore year. Actuarial Sciences concentrators are strongly encouraged to take IS251. 2. All statistics majors take ST 365, a 1-credit SAS Laboratory course. In addition, Mathematical Statistics and General Statistics concentrators take ST366, a 1-credit course in Statistical Computing using R. Second Year
