About Professor Councill

Married since 1986 to Jim Councill, lives in Catonsville. Two children, Sarah, who is in the graduate program in Speech-Language Pathology at Loyola University Maryland, and James, who is studying at High Point University in North Carolina. Active at St. William of York Church in Baltimore, serves on the Board of Concert Artists of Baltimore, belongs to two Square Dancing Clubs (Cheryl and Jim’s new passion).

  • Member of Global Down Syndrome Foundation 2015
  • Short Course presented at MSHA Convention May 5, 2012 – “Tried and True Techniques for Early Intervention”
  • Poster session presented at ASHA convention November 18, 2010 – “Addressing Social Skills in Adolescents/Young Adults with Down Syndrome”
  • Recipient of Shiela Applestein Award for Excellence in the field of Early Intervention- awarded by the Hearing and Speech Agency of Metropolitan Baltimore– June 15, 2010. Presentation with Mina Goodman titled “Early Communication Intervention for Children with Developmental Disabilities”
