2016-17 Saturday Montessori Workshops

March 11, 2017

  • Reading Classification and Pouch Making (for Primary Teachers) with Janet McDonell and Nicole Bacak

In order to prepare for fluency in reading, children must practice, practice, practice. We want to avoid this becoming boring, boring, boring. Janet will discuss the various aspects of reading readiness and ways in which we can offer delightful opportunities for this essential practice. Nicole will guide us in making some beautiful materials to entice the child towards engagement. Each participant will go home with a set of classified cards and other reading materials, including lovely handmade pouches to contain them.

Cost: $145 (lunch and materials included)

Registration Deadline: February 27, 2017

  • Handwork and Community Lunch: Supporting the Work of the Hand in The Montessori Elementary Classroom (for Elementary Teachers and Assistants) with Jamie Rue

In this workshop, participants will learn the principles and systems necessary for supporting the development of handwork and community lunch in the Montessori elementary classroom. In addition, we will be preparing soups for our own community lunch and learning how to do various types of handwork such as knitting and embroidery. We will even make our own knitting needles! Participants will leave with clear strategies and skills for implementing these activities in the classroom. This workshop is limited to 25 people.

Cost: $145 (lunch and materials included)

Registration Deadline: February 27, 2017
