The College Advising Corps seeks to help more Maryland students attend college or other postsecondary training. Through a generous gift from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, recent Loyola graduates and graduate students will be able to serve as college advisors in selected public high schools throughout the state. Advisors will assist students with admission, financial aid and scholarship applications.

About the Program

In March 2007, The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation awarded Loyola College in Maryland a $1 million grant as part of a nationwide initiative aimed at significantly increasing college enrollment and graduation among low-income high school and community college students. To read the press release about the grant, click here. Following in the tradition of the AmeriCorps and Teach for America programs, the College Advising Corps initiative recruits Loyola seniors and graduate students to work as advisors for one to two years in high schools throughout Maryland with low college-going rates and large numbers of low-income students. Over four years, the program will provide one-on-one advising to more than 7,000 Maryland high school students. The Loyola program is based on a successful model devised by the University of Virginia and funded by the Foundation.
