The 2009 fiscal year will long be remembered as a time when Loyola University Maryland, like higher education institutions throughout our nation, was shaken by economic turbulence. The ride was often rough. And yet, we emerged from this time with our fiscal integrity unshaken and our dedication to academic excellence undiminished.

Despite economic jolts, we continued to produce graduates of uncommon strength. We continued to produce students who exhibit a rare combination of intellectual agility and spiritual stamina. We continued to produce leaders—young men and women who, when they leave us, will know not just how to make a living, but how to make a difference.

The fact that we continued, despite adversity, to develop students of this caliber is a tribute to you. It is a tribute to alumni, parents, and friends whose generosity supports the ideals at the heart of our Jesuit heritage. Thanks to your gifts, Loyola endured the economic storm of 2008 - 2009. A difficult year became less difficult. Thanks to your donations, Loyola University Maryland is a better institution today than it was yesterday, and will be a better institution tomorrow than it is today.

Please accept this simple expression of our gratitude. And please remember that you are making a difference, not only in the life of this institution but in the lives of students whose educational experience you enrich.
