Some people say that operating a thriving university is a lot like running a growing company. That's not quite right. A university is actually more like a small city, with a complex range of offices, projects, and professionals necessary to keep the community strong and moving toward its goals. At Loyola, these University services encompass everything from the website and Loyola magazine to the York Road Initiative, a key component of the University's strategic plan and the centerpiece of Loyola's community engagement efforts. Other areas that fall under University services: Alumni relations, technology services, transportation and parking, institutional research, fundraising and grant writing, and the University archives. Students may not always interact with these departments—unless they hold one of the many work-study jobs these offices sponsor—but they would definitely notice a difference if any of these departments had to cut back on its initiatives.
