Pastoral Counseling Alumni

Pastoral Couseling Alumni are a religiously and culturally diverse community whose goals are the integration of spirituality and counseling in settings both social and religious. This rapidly expanding contingent of Loyola alumni reside all over the country and the world. The goal is to provide this unique group with resources and opportunities for career networking, continued learning, and lifelong connection with each other and Loyola.

CERTIFICATE IN SPIRITUALITY AND TRAUMA

It’s not too late to apply for the new Certificate in Spirituality and Trauma (CST) and begin classes in spring 2009.

The CTS offers two tracks. One concentration, the clinical sequence (18 credits), is for credentialed mental health practitioners (e.g., persons certified or licensed as professional counselors, psychologists, social workers, pastoral counselors, psychiatric nurses) who wish to deepen their skills by presenting trauma cases in a small group supervisory format.

The second concentration, the general sequence (18 credits), is a general concentration for participants from the mental health, pastoral counseling, pastoral care and ministry, education, health care, social work, and related helping professions that will enhance and enrich their work through the knowledge base afforded in the courses.

In the Spring 2009 the following courses will be offered based on enrollment.

PC 725.51  Ethical, Legal and Forensic Issues in Trauma Work
Friday, 9 am - 3 pm 3/20 and 3/27 (1 credit)

PC 727.51  Self-Care for Caregivers in Trauma Work
Friday, 9 am - 3 pm 4/24 and 5/1 (1 credit)

PC 729.51  Healing Conversations
Friday, 9 am - 3 pm 4/3 and 4/17 (1credit)

PC 730.51  Phenomenology of Trauma, Grief, and Loss 
Thursdays, 7 - 8:50 pm (3 credits) (Van Deusen) 

PC 736.51  Positive Psychology, Trauma and Spirituality   
Wednesdays, 4 - 5:50 pm (3 credits) (Ciarrocchi)


SCHOLARSHIP

Ross Trust Scholarship Competition Now Open to Counselor Education Students

The American Counseling Association (ACA) fifth annual Ross Trust Scholarship competition for Masters and Doctoral level counselor education students is currently underway. ACA member students preparing to work in educational settings can be nominated by member counselor educators and compete for one of 15 $1,000 scholarships (10 Masters / 5 Doctoral). In addition, the recipients will be awarded free membership for one year and complimentary registration for the ACA 2009 Conference & Exposition in Charlotte.

Nominators/applicants will find additional information about scholarship eligibility and requirements and links to online forms at http://www.counseling.org/Students/Opportunities/TP/Home/CT2.aspx. The deadline for submitting Ross Trust Scholarship applications and supporting materials is November 24, 2008. Winners will be announced in early 2009. Questions should be directed to fburtnett@counseling.org.

SUPPORT GROUPS

Loyola Clinical Centers: is starting two support groups: bereavement and couple’s therapy. The Bereavement Support Group will meet on Monday evenings in December and January, 6:30 – 8:00 pm. Cost is $90 for 6 sessions. The Couples Therapy Group will also meet on Monday evenings from 6:30 – 8:00 pm. Cost is $180 per couple for 6 weeks.
