American Studies

American Studies is an interdisciplinary field of study that examines the American experience—past and present—through the literature, art, history, politics, and society of the United States. The minor program at Loyola includes courses from ten different departments—History, English, Political Science, Sociology, Fine Arts, Communication, Writing, Modern Languages, Theology, Economics, and Philosophy.

While the program will begin enrolling students for the Fall 2006 semester, courses taken prior to the 2006-2007 academic year will be allowed to count toward the minor. Thus, even rising seniors will be able to take advantage of this new opportunity.

The minor was developed by the American Studies Committee: Matt Mulcahy (History; mmulcahy@loyola.edu), Doug Harris (Political Science; dharris4@loyola.edu), Janet Headley (Art History; jheadley@loyola.edu) and Jean Lee Cole (English; jcole1@loyola.edu). Please contact any one of us if you have questions about the program.
